Yesterday Leslie Kee shot my beautiful miss Japan(S). Satomi Ogawa 1999, Miyako Miyazaki 2003, Kurara Chibana 2006, Hiroko Mima 2008 & Emiri Miyasaka 2009. In a studio in Aoyama, Tokyo where we shot with Jennifer Lopez 2 months ago for Glamorous magazine.

IWAYA FOR DRESS 33

  Toshikazu Iwaya, the charismatic designer is my favorite Japanese designer. The label he designs for is called DRESS 33.  Iwaya used to design for Dress Camp and started his own label last year. His outfits are very TOKYO, very avant-garde. To me he is the Japanese Alexander McQueen, I am sorry for comparing him to anyone as he is a star on his own, truly.

  His “baroque” influences, like victorian punk rock princesses, with platform shoes paired with black, silver and gold lace socks in a form of a very-high boot. Zebra & floral prints. Swan leaned on the clothe. Outstanding collection and the accessories are to die for…I have many drag queens among my friends and I always admire their fashion sense, their eccentricity and personal creative sense. Who cares if you were born a man and became a woman, what’s matter is the striking woman you became. Iwaｙa designs for women with an attitude like my girls. Love it!

My love to Ikko san, the most famous transgender in Japan. Thank you again Ikko for the beautiful gift you gave me backstage at NTV studio. You are the best.

（カリスマ・デザイナー、岩谷俊和さんは私のお気に入りの日本人デザイナーなの。彼のブランドはDRESS33というの。岩谷さんは過去にDress Campで働いていて、去年独自のブランドを立ち上げたの。彼の服はとても”東京”らしくて、アバンギャルドね。私からすると、彼は日本のアレクサンダー・マックイーンね。でも彼は本当に彼だけの素晴らしさを持っているから、誰かと比べるなんて失礼ね。 彼のヴィクトリアン・パンクロック・プリンセスのような”バロック”スタイルに、黒のプラットフォームシューズ、シルバーとゴールドのレースがついたロングブーツのようなソックス。ゼブラと花柄のプリント。服に横たわるスワン。ずばぬけたコレクションとアクセサリーは本当に素晴らしいわ・・・。私はたくさんのドラッグ・クイーン達と友達だけど、いつも彼らのファッションセンス、奇抜で個性的な創造性を賞賛しているの。男性として生まれて女性になってことなんて誰が気にするの。大事なのは、どれだけ飛躍した女性になるかということよ。岩谷さんは私の女の子達のような姿勢で、女性のためにデザインをしているの。素晴らしいわ！ 日本一有名なトランスジェンダー、愛するIKKOさんへ。NTVのスタジオでくれた、美しいプレゼント、本当にありがとう。あなたは最高よ！）

The parents meeting at my home…
There were people at every corner of my home, amazing! I was very sick in the morning with food poisoning but I managed to get out of bed to meet and greet all the families. It is one of my favorite moments during the 5 month process of this competition. I love meeting each girl parents, also their grand parents and siblings. It is an emotional time each year for me, it makes me reconnect with life reality in the middle of this typhoon of medias, stress and around the clock work. Itfeels to me like if I was stepping in a quiet sanctuary, time suddenly moves in a slow motion for a couple of hours. I am speaking with Ayaka Konagi and her parents on the photos.

日本大会のリハーサル。　汐留にあるコンラッドホテルにて。 下は大会を前に、イネスがファイナリストの家族を招待して行ったミーティング。 実はこの日の朝、食中毒になってしまって具合が悪かったのだけど、夕方には回復してみんなのご両親に会う事ができたの。 毎年この時間が日本大会前の楽しみの一つで、メディアやトレーニングに追われて台風のように過ごしている私を現実世界に戻してくれる瞬間なの。 写真は小柳綾華と彼女のご両親とお話している所よ。
