Before today, the perfumes of GUERLAIN were not familiar to me.
But because of this event, I got to know Guerlain passion towards beauty and identity. IDYLIE has deep and sensitive scent and the feeling I got when I smelled for the first time stayed in my brain for a while.
I am glad that I check Ines’s blog everyday! I found a post about the event and got a chance to attend this day about perfume.

I loved what Ines spoke as well. Smell is one of the senses we have and it can tell a story about each person. Perfume helps us to express ourselves to others and that should be included to our daily life.
Ines was very elegant and fun person and I truly know the reason why women are curious about her beautiful, healthy and positive lifestyle! She must be esteemed by many people, and I am one of them!

私は昔から香水をつけると香りに酔ってしまうのか頭痛がして、香水をつけるのが苦手でした。
ゲランの香水は天然香料だからだと思いますが、家に帰ってもほのかな香りが漂い、頭痛もなく、むしろリラックス出来ました。
ほのかに香りがするけど、歩いたら香りが残る、存在感が増すような香水でした。

イネスが言っていた通り、日本ではそれほど大勢の人がいつもつけているわけではないと思いますが、イベントで香水の付け方や香りの選び方が聞けたので、香水に対する見方や考え方が変わりました。
イネスは「ボーイフレンドや旦那さんが好みの香りを選ぶと良い」とおっしゃっていたのですが、イベント後に彼氏に会ったら、「良い香りがする！」と言われて嬉しかったです。
香水の話とともに女性として美しく生きるための魔法の言葉が沢山聞けました。
これからゲランで自分の香りを見つけていきたいと思います。

I was not  keen in perfumes as I usually get headaches when I spray one.
However, maybe because Guerlain’s perfume uses natural ingredients, although the scent lasted even after my return to home, I didn’t suffer any headache and I even had this relaxed feeling.
Ines mentioned that “Its a good idea to choose a scent that your boyfriend or husband likes” and I actually met my boy friend after the event and he said ” you smell good!” and that made me very happy.
As well as the story about the perfume, I feel that I got to hear a lot of tips on how to live  as a beautiful woman.
I am looking forward to find “my scent” from Guerlain.

本日はイベントに招待していただき、ありがとうございました。
イネスに会えるなんて夢のようでした！緊張してしまい、苦手な英語はさらにおかしな文になってしまい、会場出た後は後悔の嵐でした…
私はtoni&guy青山店に通っていて、ミスユニバースのイベントがあると教えてくれます。
実は昨年のKickoffイベントの時にイネスにサインをいただいたことがありました。
その時は時間がなかったのかサインいただいた後にはけられてしまい、お礼も言えずに終わってしまいました。
そのあと、今年3月に行われたミスユニバース選考会のチケットを美容室の方から頂いたり、宮崎京さんのレッスンを受けたりしていたのですが、中々イネスには会えずにいました。
今日は夢が叶ってとても嬉しかったです。
浅倉様もとても綺麗で惚れ惚れしながら後ろ姿を追ってしまいましたf^_^;

It was a dream come true for me to be able to meet Ines. I was totally nervous and my ever weak English came out even more odd. So when I left the event I was in a deep regret…
I go to Toni&Guy Aoyama and they tell me about Miss Universe events.
I actually have been to the Kick Off event last year and was given Ines’ autograph then. I wanted to thank you but I couldn’t as Ines simply has to go due her busy scheduling…

After that, I was given a ticket to Miss Universe competition in March this year by the T&G hair dresser. I also attended Miyako Miyazaki’s lessons, but still not had a chance to meet Ines despite my desire.

So today, meeting Ines was real dream come true and I was incredibly happy.

Also Ms Asakura was very beautiful and I couldn’t help but keep my looking at her today f^_^;

昨日はいい香りに包まれた空間の中で素敵なお話を聞くとこができとても幸せでした。
私もあまり香水をつけるタイプではなかったのですが、イネスのお話をきいてとても興味をもち自分にあった香りを探していこうと思いました。
また、イネスの香水との出会いのストーリーの中で、「香水をつける事はシンデレラからプリンセスになるようなものだった」という表現がとても素敵で、心をくすぐられました。
他にも多々共感する部分があったのですが、その中でも「日本女性は、家庭的な香りがして個性的な香りがない」「日本女性は子供っぽい」という事に関しては特に共感いたしました。
ですがライフスタイルの中で個性的な香りとの上手な付き合い方を教えて頂け、香りを活かし身にまとう事でワンランク上の大人の女性になる事ができるという事を知りとても勉強になりました。
イネスの話を聞いて香水に対する見方が大きく変わったとともに素晴らしさを知る事ができましたので、さっそく自分の中に取り入れていきたいと思います。

I deeply enjoyed listening to a beautiful story in such a nicely scented space yesterday
I too was one of those whom prefer to not to put perfumes, but after listening to Ines’ story, I became very interested and now I want to find my own, personal scent.

From what Ines has told us, I particularly liked and touched by the sentence “Spraying perfumes is like Cinderella becoming a princess”.
Also, there were many things I totally understand like “Japanese woman often smell homely (food, detergent) and this reflects no uniqueness” and that ” Japanese woman are often not very mature, and only care of being perceived as young”.

I am glad that I have been tought how to live in a harmony with perfumes; how to take scent in to my life and be a more beautiful and sophisticated woman.

I totally changed my opinion on perfume after listening to Ines and I get now to know the beauty of it. I will definitely reflect this in my life.

イネスさんのお話の中で最も印象に残っているのは、日本人はあまり香水を付け慣れていないから、服から食べ物等の匂いがする時がある、という事。
「相手がどのように感じるか」を更に意識しなければと気づかせて頂きました。それは、「彼氏やご主人も好きな香りをつけると良い」というアドバイスにも繋がりますよね。
一般的にゲランの香水は値段が高い事で知られていますが、色々お話を伺って、何故高いのかを理解する事ができました。
私も自分に合う香水をゲランのコレクションの中から選ぶために、またこのブティックを訪れたいと思います。そして周りの友人や同業者にも勧めます！

One of the things striked me the most out of what Ines has told us is ” Japanese women and men do not usually wear perfume also most of the time, I can smell food odors from their clothes.
This opportunity made me realize, I must again, be conscious about “How others perceive me”.  This actually relate to what Ines told us “Its a good idea to choose a scent that your boyfriend or husband likes”,  isn’t it?
Guerlain’s perfume is known for its high price. But after attending this event, I understand the reason why.

For me beings one of perfume lovers, even visiting the birth place of perfume in the south of France, in the city of Grasse, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you.

A perfume story and how to “woman up”, I learned and enjoyed so much.

My Special Interview with Wendy

Wendy Marcelle Fitzwilliam the 1.85 cm (6′1″) Statuesque Stunner, born October 4, 1972, is Trinidad & Tobago’s second Miss Universe. Trinidad & Tobago’s first Miss Universe was Janelle ‘Penny’ Commissiong who won in 1977 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Commissiong was also the first black woman to capture the Miss Universe title; Fitzwilliam was the third.

In 1996, the first of two daughters graduated from the University of the West Indies with a Bachelor’s degree in law. She is a lawyer.

At 25, she won the 1998 Miss Universe competition held at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is when I jumped in. She is now a mother and we are still good friends, actually Wendy is the kind of woman that when you become friend with her it is forever.

I have interviewed Wendy with 4 simple questions, let see what she has to say….

 

What are you doing now?
Currently I am getting ready to launch my new radio program, The Wendy Fitzwilliam Show, which my technical guys will get online for the world, but it will be hosted by Radio Heartbeat 103.5FM in Trinidad and Tobago and Florida USA. Four years ago I very controversially decided to become a single mother, which created quite a stir in the Caribbean so I have shared that experience in my first publication called “Letters to Ailan” now available on amazon.com (shameless plug here!).
I’ve also been very busy raising and having the best time with my Little Prince, Ailan Andrew, while running Trinidad and Tobago’s investment promotion arm as Vice President Investment Promotion, eTecK.

How did Miss Universe affect your life? Positive and negative consequences?
Universe has allowed me to develop an amazing global network of friends and colleagues and travel in a manner which most people work their entire lives to achieve. It was a great temporary job with amazing long term perks! As a simple girl from Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago, I have experienced so many different cultures first hand, interacted with the greatest leaders of our time in politics, business, education, entertainment, you name it and luckily I continue to do so.  I’m a little more sophisticated, confident and humble because of that amazing, once-in-a-life time experience.
The not so cool thing about Universe is the total lack of privacy – and a handful of overly friendly folks (stalkers) who can sometimes fell like a mini army. Not to mention the frogs one must date in order to find her Prince…or King:-)!

What should be the purpose of Miss Universe in today’s life?
In the last few years, like so much of entertainment, the iconic status of Miss Universe is being lost in the morass of reality television which, I think, is a euphemism for mediocrity. Reality t.v. has deteriorated to a celebration of our least attractive qualities as human beings and I think Miss Universe is feeling the pressure to compete in that space.  Yet the young women who participate at Miss Universe are as smart, charismatic, ambitious and gorgeous as ever!  Universe celebrates all that is wonderful about being a woman in the diverse types of women who have held the crown in its 50+ history. It has been and should continue to be a huge career boost for a young woman, whether it be in entertainment, politics, business, family or any direction that she may choose. Miss Universe should lead the charge in today’s world of iconic beauty and femininity, thereby getting back to what they do best, CELEBRATING all that is fabulous about the fairer sex.

 

 

What is your message to teenagers around the world?
A loaded question.  Thinking back to my teens, someone like me could almost never win on this answer:-).
I’d say always have a great time and enjoy this phase of life, for as tough as it may seem at times, you’re not going to repeat it and you will never again in life be forgiven for silly mistakes – you can always blame your parents now.  This does not work for anyone past their 21st birthday.  But please be careful what you make a “permanent record” of yourself especially with what you post online, the lawyer in me knows that a permanent record can come back to haunt you! Finally never waste good energy on bad things!

Jennifer is sweet, unfortunately she has the worst manager in the world, Benny Medina….. a bad ass man…. I don’t know how she can stand him… He made me cry and she comforted me… this I will never forget. She fired him once because he was such a pain, but she got him back to get her career back, this I know…. I understand somehow. I am sure he got her that deal… he is good at this. He launched big names in the music business in the past such as Usher and Maria Carey. But they all fired him….

Oh well, tonight I feel like telling you one of my backstage’ stories. In all these years working with big time celebrities, I can tell you I have plenty under my sleeve!  I will tell you one of these stories that you don’t usually hear about, but unfortunately, those events happen often behind the scenes of glamorous photo shoots.

One day last year, we were on a magazine shoot in Tokyo and Benny (Jennifer’s manager) was yelling at everyone because he did not like the Starbucks coffee that the staff was giving him, he refused at least 8 of them (and Starbucks was far from where we were located for the shoot). He was getting hysterical, (well, how ridiculous!)…. then out of the blue, he got me on his bad side because of the lights on Jennifer not being strong enough, and he literally screamed at me!

I guess I am not used to be yelled-at like that anymore… I live in Japan where people are polite and educated and he is a real-cowboy-from-the-Bronx with zero education, also he doesn’t know better.
I must have been tired at the time as we had been working long hours.  Jennifer was asked to shoot and interview almost 5 magazines that day, she was real regal to work with and gave 200% always to everybody.

Jennifer was having her hair and make up done at that time in her dressing room and she heard shouting outside, also she came out with the crew and looked at who’s Benny was yelling at. Then she kept quiet and she saw the entire scene because she was behind him and he did not notice her.

I did not say anything and I let him scream his insanities and I started crying… If I was myself at that time I would have punched him in the face! Arrrrr I still wish I could rewrite the story and be able to do it

Jennifer asked my friend Andrea Keats who was there assisting me during Jennifer’s trip to go and find me. I came back with Andrea into Jennifer’s room and she was the sweetest to me. At night I went to her suite at the hotel to say goodnight and I did not open the door and get in at the end, because I could hear Jennifer confronting him. And he was lying and furious that I would stand in between him and Jennifer!

The next day I gave him a nice cup of fresh coffee as if nothing happened, but i had previously spit in it … I enjoyed seeing him drinking it.<em>”la revanche est un plat qui se mange froid”</em> Mr Medina. And I hope you are Google-ing yourself and reading my story right now! How did you like the coffee?

Do not mess with me ) remember I am a scorpion and a survivor! In my head and in my heart, I never loose….

 

Also my message throughout this post is:

1. never let anyone overpowering you

2. never accept to be humiliated as if you are not good enough and you deserve it, because nobody does

3. do not over-react at the time but find a way to calmly get back to that person, so that you feel clear from the injustice

4. speak out when you feel you can, I just feel good now that I wrote this…. just do it at the right time, without anger but looking back at the all thing with a smile on your face….

5. Stay away from aggressive people, because you never know when they are going to blow out. People do change and you definitely cannot change them, run away!

 

I wish injustice will be an old fashion word someday, peace for now.

What are you doing now?

I am currently living and working in Los Angeles, California as a commercial actor as well as television host. But MOSTLY I am a stay at home mom to my 3 year old son..Fynnegan Marvin Kealaokamalamalama Euy Son Mell…hahaha

 

How did Miss Universe affect your life? Positive and negative consequences.

To be fair..Becoming Miss USA changed my life considerably..I went from being a student in the Communications Masters Program at the University fo Hawaii to living in Los Angeles and traveling around the United States and getting ready to compete for Miss Universe..being of Asian ancestry and representing the US was a BIG deal for minorities in the US..and I felt the importance if that…at Miss Universe there were so many countries and such a melting pot..it really reminded me of being back in Hawaii. I went from traveling continentally as Miss USA to traveling internationally as Miss Universe, but everything else pretty much stayed the same as I already was employed by the Miss Universe organization as Miss USA…well I DID actually get moved from my Miss USA apartment to Alicia Machado’s ( as the former miss universe) Apartment upstairs from me all while I was still in Miami doing press after the pageant…THAT was surreal. The positives were that is open doors to me I didn’t even perceive existed in my prior life..I have been places, met people, done things I would have never had the opportunity to do as a student and part time hula dancer in Hawaii.
I guess the negative..which is not really that different then most women face… except that as a former Miss Universe it is a double edged sword..having to be compared forever to that one moment in time when you won can be hard as I get older..but LORD knows I try haha.

What should be the purpose of Miss Universe about, in today’s life?

You know this is a hard question to answer specifically if I am framing it through the lens of being in the United States…as pageants in general have taken the back seat to reality shows as far as the fascination of the American Psyche.  I joke that before there was Survivor or Jersey Shore..a pageant was the closest thing to a “reality show” as it got..as we were basically plucked from out of our towns and become famous over night, but as far as the REST of the World is concerned I think they look at the Miss Universe brand as a standard of an all around dignified and total package woman. We have to be able to travel on a heartbeat look fabulous while we do it, and be able to fit in anywhere…be it a pediatric wing in a third world country or the seat of honor at the Palace in Thailand.  We are part role model, part fashion plate…and most definitely a diplomat of sorts. I would hope that Miss Universe’s role today is at it’s heart that same as it has always been…to be a conduit for cultural sharing…and bridge people from all countries together through her travels and personal charisma.

Your message to teenagers around the world?

As I have become a mother my message to youth has changed somewhat…become more specific as I look through the eyes of being a parent of a future teenager…and all I have to say is please PLEASE don’t grow up too fast. The world is moving along at such breakneck speeds now..with the onslaught of social media, teen’s don’t have the luxury of figuring out who they are in the privacy of their own homes and minds..one bad decision is broadcast across twitter, one inappropriate joke or photo can mean the difference between being able to get into a certain college, or even a job…fifteen to twenty years from now..it’s a hard world to grow up in a world where everything has lasting repercussions online. Surround yourself with good people, and family that believe in you and help you make good decisions…and always try to see the BIG PICTURE..because youth is but a fleeting moment..what may sound like or look like a good idea TODAY…may not be such a wise choice for the person you want to BECOME.

Me about Brooke…

The first time I met Brooke was when I just started as Japan National Director for Miss Universe Organization.

I saw Brooke at the rehearsals and she stood up so much compared to the other girls around competing for the title. There was a big smile on her face always, and she has this Ha-Wa-ian lack back attitude that make you like her right away.

The next time I saw her, i was stopped at a red light in Honolulu on my way to downtown and there she was… driving with open windows and singing to a song on the radio. She looked happy and her aura was big and bright. She did not know me, but she noticed that I was looking at her and she smiled at me with this huge smile of hers. She made my day!

Why she won, apart from being beautiful?

I love what she said when she won… Donald Trump was furious after Alicia Machado, the reigning Miss Universe in 1996 from Venezuela, a gorgeous beauty, blond and glamorous, but who had put on more than 10 kilos during her reign… Donald went public, I remember, saying that it was a shame and unacceptable for a title holder to get “so fat”… it made big headlines in the USA as you can imagine, because 80% of the country is overweight….!

When Brook entered top 5, she was asked:  -”Miss USA, what would you do it it was your last day to live?”, and with a big smile, she replied instantly  -”I would eat anything in the world… oh wait, and twice!” .

The public in the room went crazy and she got a standing ovation.. hum, almost, as Trump I am sure did not quite like her answer! I guess, she had started a fight with the Boss! But Brook personality and charisma won the heart of many, mostly in her country where the Governor replied YES after she went to ask him if HE could make her dream come true by inviting 80+ of the most beautiful women around the world, and to bring awareness to the beautiful islands of Hawaii to the Universe.

We have never met personally, but we write to each others sometimes, she is an easy going woman from the islands… I like that, I like her, cool breeze!

Then he decided to try Kurara’s red samourai outfit. He was 4 and half years old at the time. My adorable little boy. Kurara was alwyas so sweet with my boys. Time flies……

VICTORIA BECKAM – simple but chic. This woman definitely knows how to dress. I basically like anything she wears lately. From a spice girl to a spicy woman. Kudos to this Mother of 3!

 

DREW BARRYMORE is getting more fashionable each day that passes by.Golden in a belted, crinkled Catherine Malandrino gown and soft locks. I would have her wear different shoes. Those are too heavy for the dress. But she looks GOOD!

Pussycat Dolls NICOLE SHERZINGER’s style tends usually to be more trashy than classy, also I like to see her in a Marchesa cocktail dress at the Audi’s pre-Emmy bash.

 

 

JULIA ROBERT - is really trying hard lately to look good…. and she gets it big time! Kudos to her. At the Tokyo Premiere of “Eat Pray Love”, this gold printed kimono-sleeve dress is the glammest we have seen her in a decade. Love the sleek hair do as well. Regal. We just bought tickets and we are going to see the movie on Saturday evening in Roppongi Hills with my husband on a date.

TILDA SWINTON – at the “I am Love” premiere. Tilda you are truly one of a kind. Don’t give up, keep being true to yourself, feel free and take no fashion prisoners! You are a true inspiration to an entire generation of women just like you. Me included!

 

 

MADONNA – Okay now… please admit that she looks incredible for being 52 years old! She steps out to celebrate her birthday looking barely over 22 considering her body has almost zero winkle, her knees, arms, face are flawless. I love the classy look with a conservative dress with its short sleeves, subtle color and tea length.

CHELSEA CLINTON - What a pretty bride! I expected Chelsea’s look to be more conservative or classic, But this Vera Wang wedding gown is so modern and chic, it was unexpected and refreshing! I love that her Father lost weight on the request of his daughter! My Father lost 9 kilos after I really pushed him to loose weight when they visited Tokyo last year. My Dad looks so much younger and healthy now. I love you Papa!

 

ANGELINA JOLIE - “Long live the Queen!” At the Tokyo “Salt” premiere in a majestic draped vintage Versace gown. She is the supreme ruler of the WOW effect…. this woman is the ultimate.

JESSICA BIEL – (and Justin Timberland girlfriend). I love the Giambattista Valli gown at the movie’s London Premiere of “A-Team”, I love the transparency of the dress, Le Rouge et Le Noir element (red & black). Her hair style is trendy and feminine, it matches her gown perfectly. She is one of the most beautiful woman in Hollywood right now.

 

 

ASHLEY SIMPSON - For people who are against plastic surgery… well this woman is a success story. She became so much more beautiful after going under the knife… Love the long wavy hair style with strong make up and black gown. Very dramatic.

MISHA BARTON – Most conservative people would say -”Holly Crap!”. BUT I say: -”funky!”. Misha looks like she is going out in Saint Tropez, on a bright and breezy holiday. Love the neon bag with the dress.

 

 

ASHLEY OLSEN – ’s style is always the most outrageous. I love everything she wears. Being petite, she gives a reinforcing message to girls with a short height, which is: -” it is totally OKAY when you are small, to wear what tall-girls wear!”.  I met Ashley on a red carpet in New York last year, she was rocking the cameras like no tomorrow, I could not keep my eyes out of her and watch her work the photographers the all time, until David Bowie and supermodel & wife Iman passed by my side. She is a pro and super confident…

JENNIFER LOPEZ – it’s hot-hot-hot with big’n sexy hair, Sergio Rossi pumps and a Gianfranco Ferre dress that looks like it was sculpted onto her curves right before she walked on the red carpet, at the Apollo Theater’s benefit n NYC. But where is Marc?!

 

 

CATE BLANCHETT – O-M-G!  It is an universal truth that Cate can put off pretty much anything, but she is amazing me more and more…. I am floored by this amazing vintage Christian Lacroix Haute-Couture gown. Cate is absolutely regal and stunning in both outfits. I bow down.
